Artist Statement

Judith K. Kunhardt, from a small industrial town in Northeast Ohio (i.e.Rust Belt), came to New York to become an artist. While working and attending C.C.N.Y. her first art teacher unpleasantly convinced her otherwise, so she majored in Art History. Later in life she studied Sumi-e Painting at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where she met a mentor whom she assisted in adult art classes and ended up teaching there for over 30 years including the present.

Art is not just for the elite or those designated as talented, but for everyone willing to devote their energy to it. My art is a personal meditation – an experience of nature’s beauty and mystery – a sacred place.
