To become a Brooklyn Watercolor Society member you must have an advanced understanding of the watercolor medium, and must also be a Brooklyn-affiliated watercolor artist, that is, born, raised, lived, or worked in Brooklyn, NY and/or the other boroughs of New York City

Signature Membership Details & Benefits

Here’s how it works:

 

Applications are reviewed when received. You may apply directly to our Society at any time.

 

Upon receipt of your application, you will be notified how and where to submit images of your paintings for review. You will be asked to submit  6 jpegs by email of your original watercolor paintings for approval by the membership committee. If the jpegs are approved, the applicant will be asked to bring 4-6 original, matted (unframed) watercolors to the next general Signature Membership meeting where the candidate’s work will be voted upon.

 

Because we believe your work must speak for itself, we ask that you not be present at the time of consideration. Design and drawing skills, facility with the medium, passion and the quality of presentation are the key points upon which applications are reviewed.

 

Each application is presented, discussed and then voted upon by secret ballot. You will be notified by email regarding the Society’s decision on your application.

 

 

In the event you are not selected for Signature Membership, you will be accepted as an associate member and you may apply for Signature Membership again in 1 year. You may apply for membership as many times as you like.

 

When invited to become a Signature Member, you will be given the details of each committee’s activities and asked which committee you would most like to join. To exhibit you must take on a responsibility to help in the running of the organization.

 

Membership meetings are generally held on the first Saturday of each month.

Signature members get all the benefits an Associate member receives, and also:

  • Opportunity to exhibit in all BWS exhibitions

  • Your art featured on a personal profile page on the BWS site, with links to your website, social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, articles etc.

  • You can hold position on the Board

  • Participate in Business/Administration meetings

  • You can participate in the jurying in of new signature members

  • Opportunity to help plan member activities, and the future direction of the organization

Here are the Associate level membership benefits Signature members also receive:

  • Promotion of your personal events and exhibits

  • Opportunity to be featured on BWS Facebook and Instagram

  • Chance to attend member only workshops, painting demos by well known artists, BWS social activities

  • Monthly newsletter

  • Participate in community outreach activities, events and tours

  • Opportunity to participate in activities committee,

  • Discounts at art supply stores and other store relationships

  • Invitation to members only Pre-party, held before the opening reception at BWS exhibitions, and an exclusive member only tour of exhibition

  • Network with other Brooklyn watermedia artists

  • Help plan the future direction of the organization

Signature Membership Application

Thanks for applying, this is going to be fun! Expect an email from us within the next few days. Signature Membership is $75 per year if accepted pending submission and review of 6 of your watercolors (submitted as jpegs) to the Membership Committee. If approved, you will be asked to submit 4-6 original matted, unframed watercolor paintings for the membership to vote upon at the next meeting.
